Engagements

A contract review. A risk assessment.
An adviser to your committee.

You can retain OATB to negotiate an agreement, assess a compliance program, or advise a board committee through its annual work. The examples below show what those engagements can involve and what the organization would receive.

What the work can look like

These are hypothetical examples of potential engagements, not client stories or promises of outcomes.

“Our committees overlap, and some important issues still fall between them.”

Review committee mandates and reporting pathways, discuss responsibilities with leadership, and develop a coordinated oversight structure.

Possible work product: An AI use inventory, policies and approval criteria, assigned oversight responsibilities, and a monitoring process that identifies when to reassess, restrict, or stop a use.

Illustrative engagement · Hypothetical

“I’ve joined the board. How do I approach the role well?”

Begin with the organization’s governance documents and the director’s responsibilities, then use upcoming meetings and decisions to practice asking questions, testing assumptions, and applying risk-based judgment.

The work could include: Individual onboarding, meeting preparation, discussion of fiduciary duties and decision guardrails, and continuing coaching as new questions arise.

A few practical questions

Can I hire OATB for a single contract or question?

Yes. A specific matter, defined project, or ongoing advisory relationship can each be an appropriate engagement. The scope starts with what you need.

Do we need a fractional executive?

Only if that fits the responsibility you want filled. Advice to a committee, a program assessment, or a transaction can be scoped on its own. Interim and fractional CLO, CRO, and CCO roles are also options.

Can OATB work alongside our existing team?

Yes. An engagement can support an existing legal, compliance, or risk team, provide focused expertise, or add capacity for a particular matter.

How will scope and fees be handled?

The initial discussion identifies the work, priorities, responsibilities, and any specialist support needed. Scope and fee arrangements are agreed before the engagement begins.
